Websites – Leader of the Government in the Senate Website
While I take pride in my writing and editing abilities, I am neither a graphic designer nor an IT professional. That said, I have created a lot of web content, and on several occasions provided detailed instructions to website designers.
Back in 2008-2009, I oversaw the redesign of the Leader of the Government in the Senate website and worked closely with several talented Senate Administration officials. I told them the new homepage should include images and not be too text-heavy. It should also feature two special sections: a “Message for Canada” to communicate key narratives directly to visitors and a much smaller “Did You Know” to relay short-but-important bits of information. Additionally, I made it clear that the site should employ a colour scheme combining Senate red with government blue. The end result was a much cleaner and visually attractive site that was far more informative and on-message than its predecessor.
Ten years later, I helped to create the Real Estate Council of Ontario’s intranet for RECO employees and drafted much of its early content.
